The Success Story of Manisha’s Kitchen

From a One-Bedroom Kitchen to a Beloved Maharashtrian Brand in the UAE

In 2000, when Manisha returned to Dubai with her second child, she did not yet know that her journey would one day inspire thousands of food lovers across the UAE. At the time, she focused on raising her young children and managing her household. Although she was a trained commercial artist, life had taken a different direction. However, after several months, Manisha began searching for a meaningful way to use her time while staying close to her family.

Meanwhile, her passion for cooking continued to grow stronger every day. Eventually, she decided to follow her heart. What started as simple home cooking soon became the foundation of Manisha’s Kitchen.

A Small Beginning with a Big Dream

Initially, Manisha started preparing homemade Maharashtrian snacks such as potato vada, sabudana vada, and chirote. She began supplying these items to a few supermarkets in Sharjah. At first, she handled everything herself—from cooking to packaging and delivery. Soon, customers began falling in love with the authentic homemade taste. As a result, demand slowly but steadily increased.

Encouraged by the response, Manisha took on a bigger challenge. Between 2002 and 2004, she prepared 250–300 kg of Diwali Faral from her small one-bedroom apartment. The appreciation she received during this time gave her something far more valuable than business success – it gave her confidence. For the first time, she saw a clear path forward.

The Opportunity That Changed Everything

In 2004, Manisha received her first major catering opportunity. The Dubai Maharashtra Mandal invited her to prepare Satyanarayana Puja prasad for 50 people. The committee, led by Shri Pradip Agnihotri, encouraged and supported her efforts. Because of this opportunity, Manisha’s small home initiative began transforming into a growing catering business.

Soon, word spread within the community about her authentic Maharashtrian food. As a result, catering orders began increasing rapidly. What started with gatherings of 40–50 people soon expanded to 80–100 people per event. Despite working from a small apartment with limited utensils and kitchen space, Manisha refused to let any obstacle slow her down. Instead, every challenge strengthened her determination.

Turning a Dream into a Restaurant

As the catering business grew, Manisha began dreaming of something bigger – an authentic Maharashtrian restaurant in Dubai where people could experience the true flavors of Maharashtra. She shared this dream with her husband. Together, they decided to turn that dream into reality.

However, starting a restaurant required an investment of around AED 200,000, which was not easy to arrange. They approached several potential investors, but most of them hesitated. Some doubted the food industry. Others doubted whether a woman with children could manage such a demanding business. Nevertheless, Manisha and Sachin refused to give up.

The Moment That Made It Possible

After months of searching for a suitable location in Karama and Bur Dubai, they finally discovered an old restaurant available for sale in Sheikh Hamdan Colony, Karama. Although the space was slightly beyond their budget, they decided to take a chance. Fortunately, the restaurant owner, Mr. Suresh, understood their financial situation and offered a rare opportunity—he allowed them to pay the amount in India and in Indian rupees. This unexpected support changed everything. With their life savings and the help of a few close friends, Manisha and Sachin took the biggest leap of their lives.

In January 2012, Manisha’s Kitchen opened its doors in Karama.

Learning the Restaurant Business from Scratch

Opening the restaurant was only the beginning of a new journey. No one in the family had prior experience in the restaurant industry. Therefore, Manisha decided to learn every aspect of the business herself. With guidance from experienced mentors, she gradually mastered the following:

  • Menu planning
  • Supplier sourcing
  • Kitchen management
  • Employee coordination
  • Customer experience

Step by step, she built the restaurant with patience, passion, and persistence.

Growing Across the UAE

As customers continued to appreciate the authentic flavors, Manisha’s Kitchen began expanding.

  • 2013 – First branch opened in Sharjah
  • 2015 – Bakery and confectionery production plant launched in Ajman

Today, the brand produces a wide variety of products, including

  • Sakal
  • Time Out Dubai

The Journey Continues

More than 20 years after starting from a small home kitchen, Manisha’s Kitchen has become a beloved destination for authentic Maharashtrian food in the UAE. However, Manisha’s vision continues to grow. Her dream now is to take Manisha’s Kitchen and Aishwarya’s products to the global stage, sharing the authentic taste of Maharashtra with food lovers around the world.
